The population of Kharkiv region has reached almost 2.8 million people

2 million 782.4 thousand people – this is the population of Kharkiv region as of January 1, 2009, according to the information by the official website of the regional state administration. The urban population constitutes 2 million 221.5 thousand, while that of rural – 560 thousand 870 people.

Comparing to 2008, the total number of the population has decreased by 13 thousand 497 people, or 0.5%.

The number of people changed for natural reasons (17 thousand 902 people) and because of migration gain – 4 thousand 405 people).

1 million 455 thousand 964 people is the population of Kharkiv, the other biggest city of the region – Izyum – enumerates 53 thousand 223 people, as it is said on the regional state administration website.
